Altered Photoshop image

This image is from a picture that I took from the flower show this year of a flamingo. it was difficult in the beginning to get the hang of things in photoshop since I was used to using illustrator but after a while I got the hang of things and filled in the white spaces and also took other images from the flower show that I have taken and incorporated them into this image. for example the body of the flamingo was from another flamingo that was at the flower show and also the tree. it also took a while to do but i like the way it turned out in the end I think it looks interesting and not so boring as my scanned image since I brightened the colors and added some texture to it also.
Lynda Barry

Lynda Barry's lecture was so entertaining and I thought it was very interesting. She wrote the book What It Is .This book is similar to the sketchbooks that students do in 2D class. The way that Lynda Barry draws herself in cartoon is exactly how she is and looks. She went to Evergreen College in Washington State. She explained how she sees and looks at an image as spontaneous and sometimes specific. she also talked about how children get attached to objects for example a blanket that they have had since they were born. another thing that she talked about is the how people and children go into a state of play and/or creativity. she also mentioned how singing comes before speech. she also read some of her book at the lecture which had found objects in the book and also cartoons and how she felt growing up as an artist/cartoonist and how people saw or thought of her. In this lecture she was being who she really is and not just standing in the front giving a lecture it was like she put on a show and used the whole floor of the room. she also had her own thoughts and opinions about things too which was nice. now I wish that i went to the library to recieve one of those free books since the book sounds interesting.

Philagrafika Lecture

On wednesday Teresa Jaynes who is an executive director for Philagrafika came to speak more about Philagrafika and what it is and how everything works. Philagrafika is an international festival that celebrates print in contemporary art. she said that this project began in 2000 as an experiment. Ther are many international funders for Philagrafika. Most of Philagrafika is anchored in museums and instituitons. There are five core exhibition sites (core being The Graphic Unconsious Exhibition): Pennsylvania of Fine Arts, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Moore College of Art and Design, Tyler School of Art and The Print Center. At Moore they have Gunilla Klingberg who has Brand New View which has logos of different places, like Shoprite and Rite Aid etc to create this design on the window at Moore. At the PMA there is Oscar Munoz Narcisos en proceso (Narcissi in process), silkscreens on water, screen printed charcoal pigment on water in plexiglass. Philagrafika runs from January 29th 2010 to April 4th.

Fibers and Glass Lecture
The lecture from the fibers department talked about what you in do in different types of classes. There are many different classes that you can take. all of the classes have an interdisciplinary approach. There is woven sculpture which is an introduction to weaving and also being able to use the loom. another class is body art and adornment which you learn the construction of garments and using unconventional material and you also learn of the history and techniques of clothing. In general in fibers you examine every aspect of the field you work sculpturally you can weave, dye and learn to create interesting patterns and also create a solid body of work. i found this lecture really helpful since i have been thinking of majoring in fibers since i like more hands on type of projects. I hopefully will be able to take the perquisites for fibers because I really want to be able to learn how to use the looms since I think that is interesting. Next there was the glass section. the woman speaking briefly talked about some of the classes that they had. she mentioned that is a very community and team based major. In some of the classes you can do hot casting, sand casting and there is also flame working. I think that glass blowing is really interesting but I don't think i would want to major in it.
