4/20 lecture

Philip Glan spoke he is from the painting, drawing and sculpture department. He talked about making art and studio and artists practice. He talked about the Bauhaus and how there they applied their skills to life. he also talked about how at the Bauhaus they have a an community and are able to collaborate projects with one another. In a way tyler is similar to the art community that people have at the Bauhaus. also there was this chart that showed all these different areas of art leading to this one area. It was like having each department feeding into this one big art school basically. (its hard to explain without the diagram from the lecture). Then Jess a sculptor and an adjunct professor talked about working beyond her practices. She is also about how she can help people and others and how her work goes along with that and how it goes from the outside to the inside. For exmaple she had this one piece that was at the old Tyler campus and it was a megaphone that was placed on the right where the stone wall was at the old campus where people could talk into it and you be able to hear the voice being at the campus on the inside. another piece that she did was making a bulletin board stand the same as what is outside near the library but inside Tyler and it had a micorphone at the top of it facing the entrance way to tyler so if you were to stand near the bulletin board you could hear people talking coming in and out of the building since there were speackers attached to this piece. I though that her pieces were very interesting since it had somewhat of a point to them and since the Tyler building was new when she made the one piece it was a funny way of going about things.
